Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity the participant should be able to:
1. Recognize and critically evaluate the variances between common human versus animal pharmaceutical dosing.
2. Analyze prescriptions for appropriateness and demonstrate counseling skills.
3. Build a comprehensive list of resources available to help guide decisions when dispensing veterinary prescriptions.
4. Evaluate veterinary specific nomenclature so they will be able to apply medication safety skills in their practice.
5. Assess the veterinary prescription drug order to ensure legal requirements are met and assess for potential misuse and abuse of the product.
6. Evaluate the potential for developing a plan to promote public health and safety as well as a veterinary drug formulary for their practice.
7. Communicate effectively with veterinarians and pet owners/animal caregivers.
