Upon completion of this activity the participant should be able to:
Upon completion of the chapter the reader will be able to:
1. Characterize the pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
2. Recognize the signs and symptoms of IBD, including major differences between ulcerative colitis and Crohn�s disease.
3. Identify appropriate therapeutic outcomes for patients with IBD.
4. Describe pharmacologic treatment options for patients with acute or chronic symptoms of ulcerative colitis and Crohn�s disease.
5. Create a patient-specific drug treatment plan based on symptoms, severity, and location of ulcerative colitis or Crohn�s disease.
6. Recommend appropriate monitoring parameters and patient education for selected drug regimens for treating symptoms of IBD.
